In November 2015, one of the most daring robberies of the century took place in Verona: 17 paintings were stolen from the Castelvecchio Museum, including paintings by Rubens, Tintoretto, Mantegna, Karoto, Bellini and even the museum’s visiting card — The Madonna of the Quail by Pisanello. The stealing was brilliantly staged, so the police could not catch the robbers without delay. The police suspected that the museum employee was involved in the robbery. Unexpectedly, information appeared that the canvases could have been transported to Ukraine. Having found out about this, the Director of the Investigation Department of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, putting his own reputation at stake, begins his own investigation, bypassing the official investigation.
