The national premiere of the documentary detective
Mysterious treasures of Verona
The documentary Mysterious treasures of Verona, which premiered in Rome in March 2020, set to release in Ukraine on December 10. The film was produced by the International Production Center For-Post with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine. The international distributor is MMD UA.
The film reveals the secrets of a brilliant operation to find stolen masterpieces from the Italian Museum of Painting worth about 20 million euros. It was an unprecedented theft, and the Italian press called it the kidnapping of the century. The paintings were stolen from the Castelvecchio Museum, including paintings by Rubens, Tintoretto, Mantegna, Karoto, Bellini and even the museum’s visiting card — The Madonna of the Quail by Pisanello and disappeared to an unknown destination. The stealing was brilliantly staged, so the police could not catch the robbers without delay. The police suspected that the museum employee was involved in the robbery.
In the meantime, the Director of the Investigation Department of the Ukrainian Border Service is receiving operational information that the paintings may be in Ukraine. It was this operation, which was carried out by Ukrainian border guards, that accelerated the conclusion of the visa-free agreement, which Italy was one of the last to sign.
The film is in the style of a creative documentary on the verge of fiction and documentary cinema and was selected in the catalog of one of the main documentary film festivals Visions du Réel (Switzerland).
